Although you are allowed to use Alternative models, conversions and kitbashed models (see next section), for each datasheet in your roster you are expected to use the original model matching that datasheet. Since GW provides multiple assembly options for your models, especially wargear and weapon we enforce the following rules.
WYSIWYG
As simple as it sounds, What You See is What You Get, your model should have exact weapons and wargear as listed on your roster. No exceptions.
Soft WYSIWYG
You are allowed certain exceptions in terms of wargear and weapons.
Unit, special weapon
A model with a specific weapon can only be represented by a model caring a weapon that is not already in use by other models in the unit. AND All models carying the same weapon should be represented by models with matching weapons.
Example: If a unit has two plasma weapons, they may proxy as two of the same weapon type (e.g. two meltas / two heavy bolters / two flamers). They may not proxy as mixed weapons (e.g. one flamer and one melta), and may not proxy as plasma and melta at the same time. In an Astra Militarum unit, a Guardsman armed with a lasgun may not proxy as a Guardsman with a plasma gun.
Restriction: Marker or token next to the unit, described actual used wargear
Unit, standard weapon
A unit where all models are equiped exactly same can be represented by models caring any variety of weapons
Example: A Fire Warriors unit equipped with pulse carbines may be played as equipped with pulse rifles.
Restriction: Marker or token next to the unit, described actual used wargear
Unit, standard weapon, mixed ratio
A unit where models have mixed loadout must follow WYSIWYG
Example: A Bullgryn unit with mixed wargear (Slabshield and Brute Shield) must be represented on a model-by-model basis.
Restriction: WYSIWYG
Unit, specialist model
A units that includes special attachments or models equipped with special wargear must be represented correctly on the models.
Example: A Scions model equipped with a hot-shot lasgun may not represent a model equipped with a medi-kit or banner. A Custodian Warden model may not represent an equivalent model with a banner unless the banner is physically present on the model.
Restriction: WYSIWYG
Vehicle, weapon
Optional weapons on the Vehicle can be represented by any other optional weapon
Example: A Leman Russ sponson and secondary weapons can be any avaialble options (do not mix it up with main gun represented tank it self, see Proxies below)
Restriction: Marker or token next to the unit, described actual used wargear
Vehicle and monsters, all weapons, squadron/multi model
Units of monsters/vehicles must follow WYSIWYG unless every model has exactly same weapons and wargear
Example: T’au Crisis units with mixed loadouts on a per-model basis. Astra militarum sentinels with mixed loadouts on a per-model basis
Restriction: WYSIWYG
Single model unit (can't be attached, not vechicle)
May use any available wargear options regardless of model as long as it complies with Alternative models, conversions and kitbashed models models restrictions
Example: Tau Lone Spear kroot Blast javeline can be used as Kroot long gun Bloodthister can have any of the available datasheet weapons
Restriction: Marker or token next to the unit, described actual used wargear
Proxies
Alternative models, conversions, and kitbashed models are allowed, BUT must meet the following criteria:
- Must have dimensions similar to the original (length, width, height)
- Must meet hard WYSIWYG criteria
- Must be fully assembled
All Alternative, converted and kitbashed models MUST be pre-approved by tournament organiser (send photo with sizes and preferably near original model). The following are the guidelines for your models to be approved successfully, they:
- Must match the theme, visual identity, and overall “vibe” of the army they represent
- Must share clear visual similarities and follow the core concept of the represented faction.
Examples of unacceptable alternatives include, but are not limited to:
- Using models that belong to a clearly different faction or aesthetic. Example: T’au Breacher unit can’t represent Necron Flayed Ones
- Models that may match base size or approximate dimensions but do not visually represent the intended army. Example: Fantasy goblins (without any firearms) models cannot be used to represent Astra Militarum Ratling units, even if placed on appropriate bases and the scale of the model is similar
